Meet the 2,000 PlayStation 3 based Supercomputer

A US Air Force research team has built a supercomputer using just over 2,000 PlayStation 3 game consoles, according to military news site Stars and Stripes. Dubbed the 500 TeraFLOPS Heterogeneous Cluster it is almost 100,000 times faster than existing high-end processors.

Using off-the-shelf components, including the metal shelves containing the cluster, and running Linux, the system will be used for purposes such as high definition video image processing and Neuromorphic computing, which mimics the human nervous system.

ya i've got that on my ps3 already its the life w/ playstation gimmick they have on there now. the only thing that sux about it is u have to leave ur PS3 on the life program for it to work which wont allow u to play games or do anything besides check out the 4 channels they have on there, which is kinda lame. would be dope if u could leave it on in the background while u play or do ish. just leaing my ps3 on while im not using it isnt that great of an idea to me as a gamer...

they got the idea from Dept of Homeland Sec, they've been using a similar setup for a few months now. Crazy shit... Remember when Castro bought all those PS3's when they first came out because of the "missile launch capabilities"... gg sony lol
